Detailed description

The sculpture depicts a tall, slender, classicizing female figure rising from an ornate, shell-shaped carriage in a flowing draped, form-fitting dress. Her right arm arches vigorously upwards, while her left arm hangs down, providing a counterbalance to the composition. Putti (Cupid-like figures) appear along the rim and base of the shell carriage, and richly patterned wave and cloud motifs swirl around the pedestal. In front, several doves appear, which according to myths, pull Venus' chariot; a small wheel motif can also be seen on the side of the carriage. The modeling is tight, with hair and feather details thoroughly crafted, and the surface has received a dark brown, warm-toned patina. The reddish marble pedestal enhances the decorative effect. Based on iconography and formal language, it can be associated with the Venus/Cupid allegory, reflecting French academic-neobaroque and Art Nouveau hints. Probable timeframe: 1890s – 1910s.
