Detailed description
Oil painting on wooden panel, half-length female portrait in three-quarter profile, with the gaze directed to the right. The composition is tightly cropped, the line of the shoulder and the décolletage slightly open the form. The skin surface is built of warm brown-pink tones, fine glazes, and soft transitions modeling the play of light and shadow on the face. The hair cascades down in shiny, dark brown locks, featuring characteristic spiral curls typical of the 1830s–1840s on the side. The hairstyle is adorned with white and pink flowers (likely camellia/peony and buds) as well as a red ribbon; a slight impasto application is visible on the flowers. A pearl necklace is around the neck, and a pale gold trim and lace band appear at the edge of the dress. The background is neutral, in greenish-gray tones, with a subdued atmosphere; minor scratches, wear, and varnish darkening are noticeable along the edge. In the lower right corner, the inscription "Barabás Miklós" is written in white paint, its handwriting and material application likely being posthumous. Style: Biedermeier/Romantic portrait painting; likely created in: the 1830s–1850s.
