Detailed description
Blue Cartouches Framed in Gold – Meiji Era Satsuma Urn. A medium-sized, 26 cm high, lidded, hand-painted Satsuma-style porcelain vessel, with an ivory-colored, finely crazed glaze. A cobalt blue cartouche belt runs around the shoulder, adorned with dense gold embellishments and moriage dotting, featuring stylized floral garlands and ribbon motifs in iron red, purple, green, and blue tones. The lid is secured with a gilded knob handle, and the diamond-shaped panel decoration references the body’s ornamentation. The painting is richly gilded, in an export taste, late Meiji/early Taishō style, approximately 1890–1910. Condition is good: minor wear on the gilding, with a characteristic even craquelure visible on the glaze; no breaks or repairs detected. Marking on the bottom (photo needed for precise workshop identification). This type was a popular decorative item at the turn of the 19th to 20th century, representing a fine example of Japanese ceramic craftsmanship's delicate hand painting and gilding discipline.
