Detailed description
György Hegyi (1922–2001) - Quiet Autumn Street
György Hegyi became known for his expressive interpretation of landscapes and cityscapes in Hungarian painting in the second half of the 20th century. In this canvas, measuring 60.5 × 65 cm, he captured a narrow village street, bisected by a dark-trunked, leafless tree in the center. The yellow and white walls of the houses and their red roofs contrast with the brownish hill in the background and the cloudy, bluish-gray sky. The composition is built on dynamic, thick brushstrokes, where the treatment of color showcases a vibrant balance of warm and cool tones. The street's narrowing perspective and the sharp transitions of light and shadow give the image a particular tension.
This work is a characteristic example of György Hegyi's cityscape painting, where the color experiences of Impressionism meet expressive gestures. The painting is in good condition, framed in a gilded frame, and holds both collector's and decorative value.
