The composition is triangular, the figures close towards each other, and the gazes spiral inwards. The clothing has a loosely historicizing, antiquizing effect with draperies; the women's hairstyles and the modeling indicate academic-salon education. The surface is occasionally rubbed, and the weave of the canvas is translucent. Overall, it presents a naturalistic-symbolizing variation on the theme of "bathers", likely from the period between the late 1890s and early 1910s.
