Detailed description
"Portrait of a Contemplative Man"
55 × 46 cm, oil on canvas, in a gilded period frame
The painting depicts a thinking man in an ornate interior, reclining in his chair, resting his hand on his chin, lost in thought. The sword placed on the table and the hat beside it are symbols of a noble, military life, while the light boots and the rich velvet clothing evoke the characteristic attire of the era.
The work has a somber atmosphere, yet it is an intimate portrait that emphasizes psychological representation – the man's distinctive facial features and inner turmoil take center stage.
Provenance:
In a style similar to works found in Hungarian and Central European bourgeois collections.
The signature: W. Leitel – the name of a lesser-documented painter who worked according to the academic traditions of the era.
