Detailed description

Waterside scene, its horizon runs along the upper third, with a flat boat floating on the mirror-smooth water in the foreground. Two figures lean forward, working at both ends of the boat; their fishing movements are synchronized, appearing as dark blue-green blocks. The color palette is dominated by cold greens and turquoise, enlivened by deep blues and occasional yellow-green reflections. The painterly surface is uniformly covering, built up with occasionally thicker brush strokes; the reflections on the water are created with horizontal brush handling. The composition is calm, lyrical, with light-shadow solutions based more on tonal relationships than strong contrasts. The type of clothing and the boat provide a general, timeless rural motif, characteristic of mid-20th century rural life scenes. The color scheme can be connected to Bernáth Aurél's lyrical realism.
