Detailed description
Still life in oil format on canvas, 80 x 60 cm. On a table covered with green fabric stands a slender, transparent glass vase containing a lush bouquet of yellow, pink, and deep red roses. The background is divided into two tones: dark graphite on the left, oil green on the right, which creates a strong light-shadow contrast and emphasizes the bouquet's triangular composition. The light comes from the left, casting soft, creamy reflections on the petals; the leaves and background are rendered with larger, block-like brushstrokes, while the petals are built up with fine, layered, short strokes. Subtle glimmers are visible on the glass surface of the vase, along with distorted stems in the water. On the right, a broken rose branch and scattered petal leaves appear as a memento-like motif on the tabletop. An even, fine crackled network can be observed across the surface; the varnish layer has slightly yellowed. The style of the painting is academic, salon-naturalistic; dating: presumably from the 1940s to 1950s.

Sándor Daróczi: a less-documented Hungarian painter, presumably active in the mid-20th century. Still lifes and decorative salon paintings can be attributed to his genre. The signature “Daróczi S” at the bottom right of the current work and a barely readable year beginning with 195– refer to the decade. His painting style is restrained, indicative of academic training or strong studio practice; his choice of themes aligns with the decorative taste of the era's bourgeois interiors.
