Detailed description
Károly Szegvári (1920 - 2002) is known for his distinctive theme of decorative flower still life, where classical baroque tradition merges with the expressive brushwork of the 20th century. In this work, we are presented with a rich floral composition centered around a gilded ornamental vase. The white, pink, and red petals of the roses and peonies unfold dramatically with light and shadow effects, showcasing strong use of color. The gilded porcelain bowl placed in the foreground evokes the world of baroque interiors. The brushwork is vigorous, at times with thick paint application, creating a sense of dynamism and decorativeness. Szegvári's works are favored among domestic collectors as they embody both classical artistic values and modern, expressive modes of expression. This painting is presented in a gilded frame and fits excellently into the decor of representative interiors.
