Detailed description

Guillaume Coustou inspired bronze statue pair, a smaller-scale version of the famous 19th-century marly horse tamers compositions. The emphasis is on the physical struggle between the rearing horses and the human figures, with a powerful diagonal movement. The modeling is tight, the musculature and gestures are pronounced, and the surface treatment is uniform with a dark patina. It is a typical example of how the iconic forms of baroque court sculpture continued to live on in later decorative and interior plastic arts.
