Doebrich

A large glazed ceramic (possibly faience/terracotta) group of animals: a pair of lions on a rocky ledge. The composition is built on a double, upward-curving diagonal: the male stands at the higher point, with an open mouth and a richly detailed mane; the female is in front, in mid-step, with a forward-turned gaze. The light-shadow effect is created by the glossy glaze and the deeper grooves. On the base, there is an embossed inscription: “MADE IN AUSTRIA”, model/cast numbers (12, 1191), as well as a hand-scratched signature “Doebrich”.
