Detailed description

A richly gilded French bronze clock-lamp set, with putto figures and dynamic Rococo-Neo-Baroque ornamentation, featuring a Japy Frères mechanism. The finely crafted case and the classic enameled dial evoke the representative, highly decorative French decorative clocks of the second half of the 19th century.

The Japy Frères was a French clock and clock mechanism manufacturing company founded in 1806 by Frédéric Japy with his sons, Pierre, Fritz, and Louis, creating the Japy Frères (Japy brothers) trademark. Japy played a pioneering role in the industrialization of clock manufacturing: in Beaucourt, he unified the assembly processes in a single factory, significantly shortening production time and enabling mass production.

The company's enameled dials became an industrial standard in France during the period from 1850 to 1930. Japy Frères reached its heyday between 1850 and 1930, producing high-quality yet affordable clocks, fulfilling military orders, and earning recognition at numerous international exhibitions.
