Detailed description
This work follows the same iconography as the previously presented The Farewell of Aeneas to Dido, but in a different material realization. The scene captures the key moment of Virgil's Aeneid: Aeneas's departure driven by duty and Dido's emotional attachment. The choice of materials subtly alters the impact: the handling of surfaces and the play of lights more strongly emphasize the proximity of the figures and the intimacy of the gestures. Thus, the composition carries the same dramatic tension but with different plastic emphases.
