Diána Verebélyi – VéDia: when painting thinks in space
The solo exhibition of the painter and sculptor from Szentendre is on display from July 15 to August 15, 2026, at the Hotel Garzonpláza Art & Business Hotel. The exhibition is accompanied by an online auction and a special personal meeting: on August 5, Diána Verebélyi will be the guest of the Collector's Tea Afternoon.
There are paintings that impact the viewer at first glance, and there are others that slowly, layer by layer, reveal their inner world. Diána Verebélyi – under the artist name VéDia – offers both experiences with her creations. Her paintings are built from colors, shapes, and consciously organized spaces, while also conveying personal feelings, philosophical questions, and the hard-to-express experiences of human existence.
The exhibition held at the Hotel Garzonpláza Art & Business Hotel is a special occasion for the audience of Győr to get to know this versatile artistic world more closely. The exhibition, open from July 15 to August 15, is also the first showcase of the hotel's new monthly contemporary art program. The artworks can be viewed every day, 24/7, in the hotel's communal spaces, free of charge.
Art has accompanied her since childhood
Diána Verebélyi was born in 1987 in Kazincbarcika. Her connection to art appeared already in early childhood: she drew, colored, and by the age of four or five, she attracted attention with her figures mainly modeled from clay. Spatial thinking, direct contact with material, and the construction of forms became defining experiences for her at that time.
She continued her studies at the Eötvös József Art Vocational Secondary School in Miskolc, where she gained foundations in ceramics and sculpture. Afterwards, she studied drawing and visual communication at the Nyíregyháza College, specializing in sculpture. Among her masters and professional connections are creators such as Magdolna Szelekovszki, Róbert Lukács, István ef Zámbó, János Aknay, Ferenc Puha, György Somogyi, and Mihály Gubis. The ArtÉrt Art Free School and artist’s colony also played an important role in shaping her painting vision.
Her career was accompanied early on by professional recognition: in 2005 she won the main prize of the József Attila competition, in 2009 she received the Mihály Gubis Award, and in 2012 she became a painting member of the Hungarian National Association of Creative Artists. Since 2007, she has lived and created in Szentendre, where the town's fine arts traditions and lively contemporary environment also influence her artistic thinking.
A special milestone in her artistic career is that in 2016 Diána Verebélyi was commissioned to design the plastic form of the Petőfi Music Award. This sculptural task well illustrates the versatility present in her paintings, ceramic works, and spatial creations alike.
Besides her artistic activity, she is also an active participant in Szentendre’s cultural community. In recent years, she has been one of the organizers of the Open Air Exhibition held along the Bükkös stream, connecting dozens of contemporary artists and a wide audience.
Sculptural perspective in painting
Diána Verebélyi’s paintings clearly reflect her sculptural background. The forms do not merely appear as planes: they have weight, rhythm, direction, and relationship to one another. The structure of the paintings often seems as if the artist does not simply paint but gradually builds up the composition.
Her creations combine purified forms, figuration, constructive spatial organization, surrealism, and philosophical thought. According to the artist's own formulation, her style is not definitively closed: it changes, evolves, and continuously searches for new directions with her. This openness makes her works both recognizable and constantly renewing.

Through creation, she formulates her deepest feelings and thoughts while creating forms and color worlds that represent harmony and beauty for her. Thus, the painting is not merely an aesthetic object but a personal imprint: a visible result of an inner process.
When a connection is born between the artwork and the viewer
According to Diána Verebélyi, a work becomes truly personal when it conveys genuine emotions. The viewer does not necessarily need art historical knowledge to connect with a painting. A color, a shape, a mood, or a hard-to-explain feeling may be enough to make us return again and again to the same painting.
The artist encourages the audience to seek the story and emotional content behind a work when encountering it. At the same time, she considers it natural if someone is simply drawn to the beauty or atmosphere of the image. The essential thing is that the artwork can give joy, thoughts, and new discoveries over the long term.

Art in a living hotel space
The Hotel Garzonpláza does not operate as a conventional gallery with limited opening hours. The exhibited artworks are placed in a continuously living environment: hotel guests, business travelers, local visitors, and art lovers encounter them every day.
This environment offers a new perspective. Paintings do not appear merely as isolated museum objects but become part of everyday life. Visitors can return to the same artwork multiple times, at different times of day, under various lighting conditions, discovering new details and meanings.
The aim of Garzonpláza's art program is to make contemporary art more open, personal, and accessible while creating meeting opportunities for artists, collectors, and interested audiences. The program's professional background is provided by the Földváry Auction House.
Collector's Tea Afternoon with Diána Verebélyi
One of the highlight events of the exhibition is the Collector's Tea Afternoon, held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 5:00 PM in the breakfast hall of the Hotel Garzonpláza Art & Business Hotel.
The guest of the event will be Diána Verebélyi, who will personally talk about her artistic career, artistic creed, inspirations, applied techniques, and the background of the works shown at Garzonpláza. Participants will not only be able to view the exhibition but also hear directly from the artist about the thoughts, experiences, and emotions that led to the creation of each piece.
The Collector's Tea Afternoon is not a traditional lecture but an elegant, intimate yet open meeting where questions can be asked, discussions can be held, artworks discovered, and connections made while enjoying tea, refreshments, and pastries.
The program begins at 5:00 PM with informal guest reception. After the welcoming speech, Diána Verebélyi will present her artistic journey and the stories behind the exhibited works, followed by opportunities for questions and personal conversation. The evening continues with a tour of the exhibition and presentations on bidding and purchasing options.
The meeting is not exclusively for experienced art collectors. It welcomes both those who are consciously building their own collections and those who are just getting to know the world of contemporary art or art buying.
