Detailed description
The composition depicts a lush autumn bouquet set in a green glass vase against a brown, slightly eggplant-toned background. The image is organized by the vase placed on the central axis and the radiating stems; the large, billowing heads resemble zinnias and dahlias. The brushwork is heavily impasto: short, curved strokes and spatula marks build up the glossy, scale-like petals of the heads, while the background remains a translucent, homogeneous tone field. The light comes from the top left, showing hard reflections on the vase and a dull highlight on the tabletop. The palette uses warm ochres, reds, and olive greens, with the creamy impasto of the white flowers providing a strong contrast. At the bottom left, there is an uncertain signature: Erdy or Érdy. The painterly solutions tie to the mid-20th century post-impressionist-naturalist still life tradition, akin to the decorative, late variation of the Nagybánya heritage. Likely date of creation: 1930s–1950s.
