Bertalan Karlovszky (October 24, 1858 – April 11, 1938) was a Hungarian painter who was born in Munkács, but his family moved to Budapest at an early age. At a young age, he was sent to the military, but his talent for drawing quickly showed itself, so after three years of cadet school, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under the direction of Otto Seitz. He later traveled to Paris, where he worked in Mihály Munkácsy's studio, and his style came close to that of his maste
In 1894, he returned to Budapest, where he worked as a portrait painter and illustrator. He exhibited many of his works in the Art Gallery, and in 1921 he had a major retrospective exhibition there. In 1928, he was appointed a professor at the Hungarian University of Fine Art
Karlovszky's works include salon scenes and representational portraits, which were popular both at exhibitions and in the art trad
His work is still recognized today, and his works are often featured in auctions and private collections.
