Detailed description
A circular, richly decorated bronze tray holds three conically widening cups/vessels fixedly screwed in place. The cups are surrounded by a green patina (noble mold color) band and a frieze of cherubs (dancing cupids, grape vines) running around; the edge of the tray features rococo-baroque inspired leaf and shell decoration, with spiral "handles" on either side. Viewed from above, the head of the fastening screw is visible in the center of all three containers – originally, it likely came with glass inserts and/or lids). The surface is uniform, with a natural brown patina and occasional green oxidation; the tray shows minor wear/stains. Functionally, it is a writing set/standish: two ink pots and a powdering/sprinkling (pounce) or wax holder. Style: Napoleon III (Second Empire) – a combination of gilded/patinated bronze, historicizing ornamentation. Dating: 1860–1885.
