Introduction of contemporary artist Andrea Cismasiu

Andrea Cismasiu (1980, Cluj-Napoca–Bucharest) is a visual artist currently living and working in Berlin. Her work focuses on questions of identity, memory, and perception. Cismasiu uses a wide range of tools from classical painting techniques to digital media to create sensitive, multilayered visual narratives.

She completed her studies at the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Fine Arts, later immersing herself in the Berlin art scene as a scholarship holder. She regularly participates in solo and group exhibitions across Europe: in 2018 she was featured at the Berlin Contemporary Gallery, in 2020 at the Műcsarnok, and in 2022 as part of the accompanying program of the Venice Biennale.

Her art typically consists of layered paintings, installations enhanced with sound and projections, and performances. In the painting series titled "Fragments of Self," she depicts subjective memory snippets with thin, translucent layers, while in the "Echoes of Silence" installation, she unfolds the drama of silence in spatial sound sculptures.

In the video project named "Threads of Time," she explores the dialogue between the past and present, transporting the viewer through time with archival footage and newly recorded material. In the "Urban Rhythms" series, she captures urban noise, lights, and movement on textured canvases, emphasizing the impulses of modern life.
