The 53 × 44 cm oil painting depicts a smiling portrait of an elderly man, in the spirit of 19th century Hungarian Biedermeier portrait painting. The model is wearing a black suit, a yellowish vest, and a white shirt, with a cheerful expression, soft, human-like lighting. The neutral, dark background highlights the warm-toned face, and the painter delicately modeled the texture of the elderly skin with gentle transitions of light and shadow. The virtue of the painting lies in its sincere, direct characterization, which belongs to the more intimate aspects of portrait painting of the era, akin to the circle of Miklós Barabás and Gusztáv Keleti. The back features period canvas, with the original wooden frame. The painting has remained in good condition aside from minor wear and tear and is considered of collector's value after restoration.
