Detailed description
Gyula Breunz's signature indicates that the painting is a typical but rarer piece associated with Hungarian Romantic landscape painting from the 1920s and 1930s.
Brief Introduction – Gyula Breunz (fl. 1920–1940)
Gyula Breunz is lesser-known but belonged to the smaller group of landscape painters catering to bourgeois taste of his era.
His works mainly depict sunset or dawn landscapes, riverside and forest scenes, typically characterized by warm lighting effects and romantic atmosphere.
His signature usually appears as “Breunz Gy.” or “Gyula Breunz” in the lower right corner, in red or brown paint.
In Hungarian auction archives (Axioart, Darabanth, BÁV), several similar Gyula Breunz landscapes have appeared between 2010 and 2024, measuring around 28 × 40 cm.
