Detailed description
The hand-carved, rectangular wooden storage box is decorated with folk motifs, featuring a dark brown stained and varnished surface, making it a piece of applied art. The lid showcases geometric, diamond, and cross-patterned ornamentation that is crafted with deep carvings and an angled line grid. Circular, radially structured motifs appear at the corners, reminiscent of the traditions of shepherd carvings and folk symbolism in the Carpathian Basin (sun cross, protective symbol). The interior is divided into two sections with a smoothly sanded, varnished wooden surface, likely intended for storing jewelry, toiletries, or writing utensils. The closing lid is sliding, and the construction indicates fine craftsmanship. The box was made in the first half of the 20th century, presumably in Central Europe, using traditional techniques as a functional decorative object.
