Detailed description
A crowded still life composed on a marble slab against a black background: on the left, three or four shining apples/peaches, behind them a floral-decorated lidded tureen and a slender glass; in the center, cherries spilling from a silver bowl ("mirror-like" dots), to the right a gilded reseda dish and spread out branches with leaves. In the back, a rose bouquet in a vase. The palette is built on deep darks, lacquer-like reds, and greens; on metal and enamel surfaces, meticulous white light spots. The painting method is academic, with fine impastos resting on thin glazes; the outlines are distinct, and the objects slightly idealized.
Style: Central European salon still life, academic naturalism.
Likely decade: 1890–1930.
