Detailed description
The portrait made on a 48.5 × 35 cm acrylic cardboard depicts a man wearing a hat in a modern, color-separation style. The creator constructs the image using the principle of pointillism: he builds the light-shadow relationships of the face from tiny, pure color dots. The gaze is melancholic, and the vibrations of greenish, reddish, and bluish dots shape the face. The boundaries between the background and the figure almost blur, and the entire composition is permeated by an optical rhythm. The work is associated with the Hungarian modern painting efforts of the mid-20th century, akin to the expressive, colorful portraits of Dezső Korniss and Gyula Czimra. The freshness of the acrylic medium and the texture of the cardboard create a special, experimental effect.
