Detailed description
The 18 × 27 cm oil on canvas small landscape is related to Hungarian plein air painting at the turn of the 19th–20th century. The work depicts an autumnal countryside in a quiet, melancholic mood, with deciduous trees and a misty background. The tiny, fragmented brush strokes evoke the technique of Impressionism, with a color palette ranging from greenish-brown to yellowish-red. The painter's goal was not precise topographical fidelity, but rather capturing the atmosphere of nature. The composition is akin to the vision of the Nagybánya school: capturing the effects of light and the vibration of air is at the forefront. The contemporary dark frame with a golden border highlights the intimacy of the small painting. The artwork is in good condition, with minor surface patina.
