Name forms and signatures
The artist's name often appears as Alexander (Ritter) von Bensa, as well as in the signature form “de Bensa”. There is also an older Alexander von Bensa (1794–1861) – hence the painter who lived between 1820 and 1902 is sometimes distinguished as “II.”. When researching auctions, it is worth searching for both name forms and the “de Bensa” signature.
