Detailed description

This large, pair-made jardinière set is an elegant piece of rococo revival taste: two winged amorini carry an open, boat-shaped pot, which is adorned with a dense, hand-modeled garland of roses and leaves. The delicate plasticity of the childlike bodies and the slightly forward-leaning gesture placed on the shoulder give a lifelike dynamism to the composition; the high-gloss glaze and pastel painting evoke the noble decorativeness of the Dresden style. The oval base plate is surrounded by blue ornaments with burgundy contours. Below, a blue sword mark and the circled 'R.B.' can be seen, which in the literature and comparative examples is associated with the turn-of-the-century Ritzenhoff & Breker decor/workshop, marked with a Meissen-like symbol. The type originally served as a table decoration or potpourri/pot. Its condition is crucial: the integrity of the floral applications significantly affects its value.
Technique, material: painted, high-gloss glazed porcelain, hand applications. Size: approximately 38×20×29 cm each. Condition keywords: examination of flower petal/leaf deficiencies, hairline cracks, restoration traces. One porcelain has been repaired at its base. Title: Spring Procession of the Amorini. (Provenance: see below RB + sword mark – contemporary Dresden circle.)
