Detailed description
A small town street front unfolds before us, with a gently sloping path that curves towards the center of the image, leading to the background where two plastered houses with red tile roofs stand. On the left, a reddish plastered wall and a balcony detail close off the image, while on the right, a lower gabled building and a tall electric pole divide the space; the diagonals of the wires add a subtle rhythm. The color palette is built on earth tones, warm brick red, ochre, green, and muted blue; the blueness of the windows provides a cool counterpoint. The brush handling is pasty, occasionally worked with a dry brush, reinforced by scratches and thin black drawing lines. The light is bright, scattered daylight with short shadows. In the lower left corner, there is a black, hard-to-read mark. The medium is likely oil on cardboard/panel, 38 x 44 cm. The composition and motif evoke the post-impressionist, more expressive plein air direction of the Nagybánya tradition, likely dated: 1930s–1950s.
