Detailed description
The object is a majolica cachepot/jardinière with a circular base, high, slightly flaring walls and a thick rim. Its outer surface features a deep cobalt blue glaze serving as a background for white, finely embossed scenes: an antiquizing Bacchic music procession with putti and figures in classical attire, accompanied by harp and wind instruments. The figurative band is bordered above and below by an imitation pearl necklace, accompanied by green-painted laurel/foliage ornamentation. The lower zone of the body is ribbed, while the interior is white with a glossy glaze. The cast decoration is sharp, the glaze is even, and the color palette is the favored triad of historicizing neoclassicism: cobalt blue–ivory–leaf green. The impressed factory mark on the base is readable: “Eichwald,” below it the form/decor number (presumably 7839) and size mark (4); in graphite pencil, the inventory number (2094). Based on typology, style, and marking, it is of Central European, Czech/Bohemian manufacture, dating from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Style direction: historicizing neoclassicism; likely decades: 1890–1910.
