Detailed description

A large, rounded-walled pot or jardinière is visible, with a wide flaring, rounded rim. The surface is covered with a deep bluish-purple, metallic iridescent glaze, playing with occasional petrol-green flashes; the reflection and color change are characteristic of eosin glaze. The body is smooth and unadorned, and the proportions of the form refer to the functional flower holder type. A measuring tape appears in the photo, indicating a height of approximately 20–21 cm; the largest diameter is presumably 26–30 cm. A fine network of cracks, or beaded craquelure, can be observed at the base, with a circular, convex factory seal featuring five turreted coats of arms and a fragment of an inscription, above which is an impressed number 644. The mass is pinkish, and a darker inner glaze is seen under the rim. The play of light and shadow is provided by the glossy, iridescent surface; no brush strokes are detectable, as the object is factory work that is turned and/or cast. Overall, it is a piece that evokes the Zsolnay eosin tradition, standing on the border of Hungarian Secession and early Art Deco, likely from the 1900s to the 1920s.
