Detailed description

Oil on canvas, a half-length composition of a seated female figure. The model sits in a relaxed pose, slightly turned to the left; she rests her hands in her lap. An even lighting, with soft light coming from the left, shapes the features. The color palette is based on earth tones: warm ochres and browns, while the focal point of the composition is the full red skirt, and the blouse has off-white with grayish-olive reflections. The background is neutral, with a glazed, cloudy color tone, the dark blue band of the horizon and a few bird silhouettes suggest a seaside environment. The brushwork is varied: wider, dense spot painting on the folds of the clothing, and more delicate, layered features on the face. Fine mesh-like cracking and occasional yellowing from varnish can be observed on the canvas. In the lower left corner, there is an uncertainly readable inscription ("…aravaggi…"), which stylistically cannot be linked to the 17th-century master. Overall, it is a late academic-naturalist work, showing influences from Barbizon and realism, likely from the period between 1880 and 1910.
