Detailed description

Ármin Glatter (1861–1931): Girl with a Red Headscarf, 55.5 × 40.5 cm, oil, canvas, signed lower left: Glatter Á. The half-length female genre is a favorite subject of the artist: the model appears in a blue dress with a small floral pattern and a white apron, wearing a red headscarf, holding a woven basket in her left hand, with her right hand on her hip. Soft side lighting highlights the plasticity of the face and arms from the neutral dark background; the gently smoothed skin surfaces and the detailed hand testify to Glatter's academic-naturalistic training (Munich school). The restrained blue-brown palette is animated by the vibrant red of the headscarf, the composition is organized into distinct diagonals. Its condition is good, with minor surface aging. Glatter's works have regularly appeared in the historical exhibitions of the Műcsarnok and in domestic commerce; thematic parallel: The Ironing Woman (Visnyei Gallery, 2020).
