Detailed description
The finely gilded, cobalt blue porcelain cup was made in a classicizing style characteristic of decorative ceramics from the mid-decades of the 20th century. The shape of the object evokes the antiquizing vase forms of Viennese and French manufactories, while the hand-painted putto group and the female figure follow an allegorical, mythological theme. The scene enclosed in the gold cartouche is technically demanding, likely created based on a reproduced pattern with manual overpainting. The decorative nature of the object, as well as the blue-gold color scheme, could have adorned the interiors of the bourgeoisie striving for luxury during that era.
