Detailed description

The painting is created with a dense, pasty brushstroke, characterized by powerful color fields and a geometrized background. The artist has processed the traditional still life motif of flowers according to modern compositional principles: the mosaic-like, cold blue-green tones of the background and the contrast between the dark red and yellow flower heads define the rhythm of the image.

The objects – vase, fruit, leaves – hover on the border of reality and abstraction: the painter shapes the composition with thickly applied layers of paint, a spatula, and short, decisive brush strokes. The harmony of lights and colors points towards Hungarian post-impressionism and the geometrizing trends of the 1960s and 70s.
