NEM Gulácsy

This 14.5 × 20 cm oil, fiberboard portrait with Gulácsy's signature is an extremely interesting piece — at first glance, an expressive, modernized portrait characterized by thick layers of paint, rough brush strokes, and a slightly spiritual atmosphere built from an inner light. The dominance of yellowish ochre and earth tones, the internal, meditative gaze, and the archaizing composition strongly remind one of Gulácsy Lajos's (1882–1932) mystical, self-reflective portrait vibes — while technically it is markedly different from them.
