Detailed description
Rose bushes in twilight by the lake
Garden/park landscape in twilight: in the foreground and middle ground, bushy flowering, pink–salmon color shrubs line a still water; on the right bank, a mass of darker trees stretches, while in the back, hills and a cloudy sky dissolve in warm orange reflections. The composition is divided into horizontal bands, with the water surface leading from left to right, reflecting the shore and the clouds. The palette is based on warm ochres, browns, and lead greens, with the bright coral–pink accents of the flowers providing a decorative focus. The brushwork is smooth and glazed; the tree masses have soft transitions, and a fine, uniform glossiness is perceivable on the surfaces. The light is low, highlighting the bushes and the ripples of the water with golden edge lights. Iconography: idyllic “garden by the lakeside,” with a romantic, decorative tone.
Style: academic–salon-like landscape painting, romantic tonal realism.
Probable decade: 1900–1930 (decorative park motif, warm twilight).
