Detailed description

Auguste Moreau was born in 1834 in Paris, as the youngest son of the renowned sculptor and painter Jean-Baptiste Moreau. His brothers, Hippolyte and Mathurin Moreau, also became recognized sculptors and were significant figures in 19th-century French figurative sculpture. Auguste completed part of his studies in his father's workshop, then furthered his education under the guidance of masters Aimé Millet, Augustin Dumont, and Jean-Thomas.

He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1861, where he regularly exhibited until 1913. His artistic career was characterized by a consistent presence, a solid professional background, and subject matter that was popular among the public. The focal point of his works primarily revolves around idealized female figures: young girls in light, often translucent, floating garments, participating in scenes with flowers, birds, or finely articulated allegorical and genre scenes. Compositions depicting putti, figures of Cupid, and children are also common.
