Detailed description
Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse's bronze sculpture pair features King Charles I and Oliver Cromwell set in deliberate opposition to each other. The differing postures and gestures of the two figures emphasize the contrast between royal dignity and Puritan governance, not as a historical scene but as a character study. The intricate attire and finely crafted facial expressions evoke the iconic figures of 17th-century English history. The sculptures were made in the Denière foundry, interpreted as a pair that complements each other.
