Detailed description
French standing clock, richly decorated with gilded bronze fittings and a case adorned with black and gold toned, Boulle-inspired ornamentation. Based on the inscription Nicolas Du Quesne, Paris readable on the clock mechanism, the piece can be attributed to a Parisian clockmaker from the late 18th to early 19th century. The cartouche-shaped bronze decorations, mask heads, and figurative upper appliqués follow the representative tradition of French court taste. The composition is both a functional timekeeper and an impressive interior object.
