Detailed description
Richly decorated metal alloy jug.
Nearly 87 cm tall, patinated bronze decorative jug, featuring a composition depicting the Bacchanalia festival. The pear-shaped body is surrounded by a high relief band: dancing Bacchantes, grape decorations. The place for the handle is filled with a strongly curved rocaille arch, which is clung to by a half-figure supporting figure, raising a cherub in its hands. The bronze is deep brown, with polished highlights in places. The overflowing ornamentation, Bacchic iconography, and virtuoso casting solutions can be linked to the Rococo revival of the French Napoleon III era.
