Detailed description

This 19th-century wall clock has a carved wooden case and is adorned with brass fittings, further enhancing the aesthetic value of the clock. The quarter-striking mechanism chimes every fifteen minutes, making timekeeping more precise and audible.

It is powered by three weights, thus three separate weights drive the mechanism: one for timekeeping, another for the striking mechanism, and the third possibly for a secondary function, such as a gong or other supplementary mechanism.

József Lechner was a Hungarian clockmaker. He learned the trade alongside his father in Pest, then in Switzerland, London, Paris, and Munich. In 1856, he took over the workshop on Váci Street that was founded by his father in 1808.
