Detailed description

Patinated French bronze sculpture group with a mythological-heroic scene: a male figure struggling with an attacking big cat, in a dynamic, tension-filled composition. The work is by Édouard Cartier, who was one of the significant French animalier sculptors at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The pronounced modeling of muscles, the dramatic curve of movement, and the delicate patina treatment reflect the high standard of academic-realist sculpture of the era.
