Detailed description
Half-length female portrait, the model looks up left in a three-quarter profile. A warm, rusty-red toned turban has been wrapped around her head, secured with a small knot on the side; her clothing follows a similar reddish-brown palette, with a black cutout reminiscent of a dark lower garment beneath it. The background is uniform, deep black, from which the light, alabaster-toned face stands out dramatically with light-shadow contrast. The brushwork is finely smoothed, translucent, with forms modeled through soft transitions in places; the corner of the mouth and the edge of the eyelid are precise and cleanly drawn. The surface of the panel shows continuous craquelure and longitudinal cracks; on the reverse side, strong lattice-patterned cradling, wormholes, and conservation marks can be observed. The frame is black with a gold edge and a Greek key motif. Iconographically idealized female head (saint/sibyl/Beatrice Cenci type) likely following a 17th-century Bolognese model, but the execution strongly resembles an 18th-19th century copy. Stylistic direction: Bolognese classicizing Baroque influence; likely decades: 1780–1860.
