Detailed description

The two fine, oval ceramic tondos belong to the decorative line of Ilona Búzás's oeuvre. In the second half of the 20th century, the artist rethought the classic theme of the female portrait, merging the elegance of Art Nouveau with the artisanal nature of modern applied arts. The delicate line drawing, underglaze painting, and pastel tones depict sensitive female figures, evoking the fashion and charm of the early 20th century. The glaze is shiny, and the relief-like contours slightly stand out, creating a plastic effect. The works represent one of the favored genres of the era, portrait ceramics, which can also be interpreted as home decoration, and are linked to the products of the workshop network between Hollóháza and Hódmezővásárhely.
