Detailed description

Extremely richly gilded French bronze clock–candelabrum set, with a powerfully dynamic, almost sculptural Rococo–Neobarock composition. The central clock is surrounded by figures, tendrils, and volutes that twist energetically, characteristic of the Parisian decorative bronze industry of the second half of the 19th century. Based on the plastic shaping, deep breakthroughs, and high-level chiseling, the piece is considered to be the work of a leading French bronzier workshop. The ensemble was primarily made for representative, visually-oriented interiors, where the sculptural effect dominates over the timekeeping function.
