Detailed description

The composition is built on steep, diagonal rock formations that lead from the lower right corner to the upper right edge. In the middle band of the image, a brown bear emerges from the yellow-green bushes, with an open mountainous panorama to the left, soft, bluish-green distant ridges. On the upper right rocky plateau, two prehistoric hunters clad in animal skin are depicted: one is raising a stone high to strike, while the other is bent down rolling a stone. The light comes from a warm, golden, opalescent sky, and the color palette is reduced to ochre, earth green, slate blue, and warm browns. The brushwork is plastic, sometimes pasty, with the vegetation rendered in quick, fragmented brush strokes, while the rock is modeled with larger, flat surfaces. The anatomical indication of the figures is compact and illustrative. In the lower right corner, the inscription is clearly readable: HANS M. HRUSA, below it, 1973. Based on its subject and treatment, it is a realistic-narrative, illustrative historical scene, probably from the 1960s to 1970s.
