Detailed description

Oval field composition, half-length female portrait, in oil on canvas technique, in a gilded, coffered frame. The model appears in a half-profile, slightly looking at the viewer; her short, wavy bob hairstyle and subtle makeup refer to the fashion between the two world wars. A falling, frilly, lacy white dress covers her shoulders, and she holds a purple bouquet in her hand. The neutral, grayish-beige background enhances the curve of the head and shoulder. The brush handling is smoothed, naturalistic; thin glazes on the skin and textile surfaces, and small white highlights can be seen on the lace. The light falls from the left, modeling the face and shoulder with soft shadows. Iconographically, the flower symbolizes youth and purity. At the bottom of the painting, there is a readable signature in reddish-brown paint: "Henczné Deák Adrienne." The composition has a bourgeois salon painting atmosphere, in an academic-naturalistic style, most likely dated to the 1920s-1930s.

Henczné Deák Adrienne. Based on the signature, she is a Hungarian female painter, presumably active in the first half of the 20th century. Her working style is academic-naturalistic, related to the tradition of bourgeois portraiture. Her works rarely appear on the public market; it is recommended to involve museum and local historical databases, as well as family estate resources, to explore her oeuvre.
