Detailed description

The composition follows the model of Hippolyte François Moreau's most famous allegorical female figure. The bronze figure representing the harvest girl is a characteristic piece of French Romantic Art Nouveau sculpture: it evokes the beauty of nature, the nobility of work, and the cheerfulness of womanhood. The detailed drapery of the statue, the delicate crafting of the grape clusters, and the anatomical accuracy of the body evoke the high school of foundry work at the end of the 19th century. The figure, standing on a marble pedestal, has acquired a fine brown patina, which gives depth and warmth to the bronze. This particular example was likely made in the first decades of the 20th century as a quality reproduction based on the original Moreau model. Due to its decorative value, classical harmony, and iconic themes, it is a fine example of the popular salon art pieces of the era.
