Detailed description
Central axis composed Madonna with Child, sitting on a stone wall; behind her, a gentle hillside landscape with parcelled fields and a bluish mountain range. Mary appears in iconographically traditional attire: blue cloak, burgundy tunic, delicate golden halo. The naked Infant sits in her lap, his right hand suggests a slight blessing gesture; Mary's hand embraces him protectively. In the foreground, a wildflower meadow and hydrangea-like flowers, a twisting shrub to the left. The color palette is built on earth and sky colors; the skin tones are rosy ochres. The brushwork is smooth, the folds of the drapery are occasionally more pasty; the background is dissolved with aerial perspective. The light is frontal, with soft shadows, without dramatic contrast. The canvas shows general, networked craquelure and minor paint detachments, mainly in the sky area. In the lower right corner, a handwritten signature: "Molnár J." The work has an academic–Nazarene character, most likely can be dated between the 1890s and 1930s.
