Detailed description
The painting is an authentic example of the spirit of the Nagybanya School. The light breaking through the dark, earth-toned hues, the peasant cart, and the silhouette of the village evoke the harmony between nature and man. The dense, pasty painting technique, the strong brushstrokes, and the somber yet warm color palette reflect the Rudnay-Bernáth painting attitude. The hand-wedging of the back stretcher, the coarse linen canvas, and the priming technique reinforce the work's Nagybanya origin or its belonging to the immediate circle of disciples. The composition's restrained monumentality, the lyricism of the dusk light, and the realism of the folk life scene continue the most significant tradition of early 20th century Hungarian landscape painting.
