Detailed description

This bronze composition is a characteristic type of Claude Michel Clodion's oeuvre related to Bacchanalia, where mythological figures appear in motion with interlocking gestures. The dynamic postures of the female figures and the presence of the accompanying hoofed figure evoke the iconography of the Dionysian circle, presented in a distinctly decorative manner intended for salons. The composition is organized by a spiral structure and the rhythm of the draperies, while the relationship between the figures is interpretable not as narrative but as a formal unity.
